Some of these changes have already happened while some\nare already happening but in this post, we want to show you the future of jobs\nin Nigeria <\/p> <p> Firstly, this article is important because you\nneed to know where the trends are flowing to if you want to remain relevant in\nlife and society. So you need to read to the end. <\/p> <p> We are trying to become prophets and tell you\nwhat must happen but we are predicting the future with current data we have and\nformer trends we have seen. <\/p> <p> PAST TRENDS <\/p> <p> Let's start with the past trends of jobs in\nNigeria since independence. <\/p> <p> In 1960, agriculture was the major source of\nincome for the people and for the government. It provided food for the people\nand revenue for the government. <\/p> <p> Helped in getting raw materials for other\nindustries and export materials that generated foreign exchange. <\/p> <p> In 1970, oil happened and we forgot about\nagriculture. Agriculture became the poor man\u00e2?`s job and anybody doing it was not\nregarded highly. <\/p> <p> Jobs started to change face. The trend now\nchanged to people becoming technicians and engineers. The money gotten from oil\nhelped other sectors like education and civil service to grow rapidly. That was\nwhen Nigeria started fancying the idea of white collar jobs. <\/p> <p> People graduated and got jobs immediately.\nThings were good for everyone. <\/p> <p> In the 1980s, there was a global economic\nrecession and Nigeria was not ready to deal with such magnitude of poverty.\nThings receded because we were a major importing economy. <\/p> <p> That was the era of \u00e2Ghana-Must-Go\u00e2?\u009d and\nStructural Adjustment Programme. <\/p> <p> In the 1990s, people became wise and decided to\nfend for themselves. It was now generally acceptable to say your full-time job is to\nplay football or act movie or any of the arts that were not before time\nconsidered serious. <\/p> <p> In the 2000s telecommunications entered and\nchanged the job landscape in Nigeria. <\/p> <p> People became in love with telecommunications.\nEverybody wanted to work in MTN, Glo and the likes. Oil prices started rising\nagain so people also loved oil but people had gotten wise. <\/p> <p> A lot of people were no longer waiting for the\ngovernment and the tides to turn in any way before they could survive. People\ntook their survival personal and took initiatives for their life. <\/p> <p> That was when the entrepreneurship flu infected\neverybody. They sought out ways and created jobs that were previously none\nexistent. They no longer waited. Seemingly awkward jobs started rising\neverywhere. <\/p> <p> Jobs like event management, digital marketers,\nwaste recycling computer programming etc started springing up and the normal\ncitizens on the street were the people championing the cause. <\/p> <p> FUTURE OF JOBS <\/p> <p> It\u00e2?`s getting worse and that is why we are\nwriting this. It is a place\nyou enter because you have demonstrated your ability to deliver. We are talking\nabout a billion dollar sector in Nigeria. <\/p> <p> The film industry grew so big and the only\ninvolvement we can remember from the government is the Three billion Naira\ngiven to them from the last administration. <\/p> <p> The big names you are hearing today are majorly\npeople that didn\u00e2t wait for the government to set up structures to help them\nbuild their business. They didn\u00e2t wait for all to be ready before they started\nworking and became successful. <\/p> <p> Neither should you if you want to have a job. <\/p> <p> The moment you start waiting for a federal\ncivil service job or that your uncle in Aso Rock to help you, you are already\nshooting yourself in the foot. <\/p> <p> Are we saying the government should set up businesses\nfor the citizens? Because we see thousands and millions of\npeople just moving around in life without knowing where they are heading to. No\nknowledge of what happened, what is happening and what will happen. <\/p> <p> People are still investing their life, money,\nand energy into something that is going extinct. It is synonymous to using all\nyour money to invest in VCR cassettes because that was the reigning thing in\nthe \u00e290s and early 2000\u00e2?`s so you feel an attachment to it. <\/p> <p> We wrote a whole article on technologies that\nare disrupting jobs all over the world here. They skillfully combine websites and the\nsocial media to showcase any product, service or idea to the people who need to\nhear them. <\/p> <p> They produce and promote content that\nadvertises a brand to their customers and they also manage the online\nreputation of the company <\/p> <p> - Business Analysts <\/p> <p> They see to the implementation and support of\nbusiness systems. They look out for possible problems that may arise and make\nsure it does not cripple the business and also seek out opportunities for\ngrowth for the growth. <\/p> <p> He or she also collaborates with other\ndepartments to make sure the company is working smoothly. <\/p> <p> This job is yet scarce in Nigeria but the\ndemand is quickly rising. <\/p> <p> - Clean Energy Jobs <\/p> <p> These are jobs that help install clean energy\nlike wind and solar energy.
